They say it’s not the heat, but the humidity. Well fret not, because the versatile Timex TX6010 wireless electronic thermometer displays both at the same time. The compact unit–which mounts on a wall or sits unobtrusively on a desktop or shelf–sports a three-line LCD panel that displays the indoor temperature on the top line, the outdoor temperature on the middle line, and the indoor relative humidity on the bottom line. As a result, you can instantly gauge whether to wear shorts or pants on a seemingly mild summer day, give the plants a little extra water in the morning, or crank the air conditioner as the afternoon progresses. The temperature readings range from 32 to 104 degrees F (0 to 40 degrees C) for the indoor temperature to -58 to 158 degrees F (-50 to 70 degrees C) for the outdoor temperature. The relative humidity, meanwhile, is measured on a scale of 1 to 99 percent, with the hygrometer performing best between 40 and 70 percent.
The TX6010 is remarkably easy to read–even from across the room–thanks to the pronounced digits, which measure 0.34 inches tall. Even better, the system comes with a wireless remote sensor/transmitter that measures the outdoor temperature from up to 100 feet away. Thanks to the extended range of the wireless transmitter, you can mount the main station virtually anywhere without losing the remote signal. The mounting options for the main station stem from the integral table stand (for shelf or desk installation) and the built-in keyhole slot (for wall mounting). The remote sensor comes with its own tabletop stand, but rather than a keyhole slot, it includes a full wall-mount bracket that attaches via either screws or two-sided tape (both included). Note, however, that the remote sensor should not be exposed to direct sunlight and must be protected from rain, snow, and wind.
The TX6010 also features a minimum/maximum memory function that records the high and low temperatures of the day. The values are available at the push of a button, with a second button clearing and resetting the memory on command. And users will love the snazzy white housing and attractive interface, which includes a six-button control panel on the main station and a red LED on the sensor that indicates when the unit is transmitting. Power requirements include two AAA batteries for the main unit and two AA batteries for the transmitter (not included), with alkaline batteries recommended in most cases.
The TX6010’s main station measures 2.8 by 4.8 by 0.9 inches (W x H x D), while the remote sensor checks in at 2.8 by 3.9 by 0.9 inches. The entire bundle is backed by a one-year factory warranty.
